X cubed
MODULAR CROSS STITCH SCULPTURE
X cubed expands on Kris Campbell’s use of the cross-stitch X—a symbol she has long used to explore the separation of souls and the boundaries between body and spirit—by reimagining it as a three-dimensional, modular, stackable unit of space.
Just as a single stitch marks a point on cloth, each sculptural X becomes a physical unit of presence, echoing the structures that hold life together. Installed outdoors, these forms lift the domestic gesture of embroidery into open air, transforming it into a spatial exploration of biology, breath, and being.
X cubed asks what it means to stitch in space, to search for the soul not just in the body, but in the space it inhabits—and to render the unseen structures of life both visible and felt.
